Project Associate

Mr. Sarang Bokil is a botanist and and conservation researcher. He has more than nine years of expertise in molecular phylogenetic, plant taxonomy, and ecological fieldwork.

He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in the systematics of the grass subtribe Ischaeminae in India while serving as a project associate at WRCS.

His work focuses on recording the richness of plants, particularly native and endemic species, and using taxonomic research and IUCN red list assessments to aid in their conservation.His seven research publications have been published in peer-reviewed journals, and he has carried out in-depth field surveys in Northeast India and the Western Ghats. He is also involved in IUCN threat status assessments. He has published threat status assessments of four Ischaemum species on the IUCN Red List. In order to assist evidence-based ecological restoration and biodiversity management, he is especially interested in combining knowledge of Ecology and taxonomy with conservation planning.
