On July 30th, 2025, the Wildlife Research and Conservation Society (WRCS) conducted a dynamic and interactive outreach session on “The Fascinating World of Owls” at Sevasadan English Medium School, Erandwane, Pune. This outreach session was specially curated for students of 5th to 7th standard, the session witnessed an overwhelming response with over 300 curious and enthusiastic students.

The program was facilitated by WRCS team members Ms. Sonal Pawar, Ms. Nityashree Nandi, and Mr. Vishnu P , who brought the mysterious and often misunderstood lives of owls into the classroom in a fun and informative way. The objective was not only to introduce students to different owl species and their unique adaptations but also to address the many myths and misconceptions that surround these nocturnal raptors in Indian folklore.

Using different visuals, engaging storytelling, and interactive Q&A sessions, the students learned about owl behaviour, their haunting calls, hunting techniques, and the critical habitats they occupy. The session also emphasized the crucial role owls play in maintaining ecological balance, especially as natural pest controllers in agricultural landscapes.

Students were eagerly participating, asking insightful questions, and sharing their own observations. Their genuine curiosity and love for wildlife turned the session into a meaningful learning experience and sowed seeds of environmental consciousness among young minds.

We are deeply grateful to Ms. Gauri Gharpure for her support and initiative in making this session possible. Such collaborations are instrumental in nurturing a generation that values and protects our rich natural heritage.
