Position for the post of Environmental Educator at Melghat

Background: Wildlife Research and Society (www.wrcsindia.org) is implementing an Environmental Education Program in 23 tribal schools in Melghat as a part of ‘Tiger Conservation Project in Melghat Landscape’. Children studying in the schools in Melghat are fortunate to be living a life amidst nature. As a result, they already have a rich repository of natural wisdom. Our education program aims to channelize their knowledge and understanding towards becoming proactive naturalists and future conservationists.
 

Nature of Work: This is a completely field-based opportunity which will involve staying in Melghat for a continued duration and occasional visit to WRCS office in Pune. The work will involve developing modules for imparting education to the children. This will involve preparing presentations, videos, project-based activities, charts, booklets and other education material. The work will involve visiting one or two schools daily to deliver lectures, slide shows and implementing projects. The work will require interacting with students, teachers, Forest Officers, Government Officials and Project Co-Ordinator. Arranging and conducting workshops, meetings and field trips will have to be done as required.
Work Area: Melghat Tiger Reserve (MTR), Maharashtra. The work will be in 23 Aashram schools in Melghat Region. The work will involve staying in remote villages and forested areas for extended periods in basic accommodation facility. Melghat area experiences very hot summers , cold winters and good monsoons. The terrain is rough and hilly.

 

Essential: We invite application from young, dynamic and committed individual who is capable of working independently as well as with a team. We are looking forward to working with even-tempered individual with good understanding of wildlife and conservation issues. It is most essential to have an aptitude for engaging with school children. The applicant should have excellent oratory and written skills in English, Hindi and Marathi. Candidate will have to travel extensively on a two-wheeler in rough terrain of Melghat, therefore must possess permanent driving license for a two and a four-wheeler. Pune-based individuals are encouraged to apply.
 

Duration of Work: This is a long-term position but the initial contract will be for two years which can be extended based on the performance of the candidate. Only those individuals who can commit for a period of two years should apply.
 

Remuneration: Salary will be commensurate with qualification and experience of the candidate.
